DWBL Funded Cookery Activities

Cookery for healthy eating was a very important strand in our activity programme.

Eat Well Spend Less – £2,902

Community Stuff ran a six-week cookery course at Devonshire Children’s Centre teaching local residents how to cook healthy tasty meals on a budget. Each session lasted for 3 hrs and finished with the clients all sitting together to share the food they had created. It gave residents the opportunity to make new friends in the area. They provided a free creche so parents with young children could also participate.

World Bread Club – £1,865

Community Stuff provided a 3-hour, weekly session for 12 weeks, for people to come together, learn about bread from around the world, make bread and some healthy regional soups or dip to accompany it, and sit and enjoy it together. It was extremely popular. Due to this the organisation then went on to run Eastbourne Bread Club at the same venue at weekends for the next year.

New Leaf Café – £18,341

An Eastbourne Mencap project to develop a social enterprise, a weekly Community Lunch at Leaf Hall. Our Neighbourhood trained Eastbourne Mencap clients in café skills in a real-life environment running a weekly community lunch. Local Residents booked to enjoy a two-course lunch every week for a low price, giving them the opportunity to eat healthy homecooked food, and socialise together at Leaf Hall.
