The aims of the local trust were to:
- Prioritise making a difference that the community needs.
- Increase peoples skill sets and confidence.
- Identify local needs and take action in response to them.
- Make people feel that their area is an even better place to live.

A working group carried out extensive consultations with residents as to how to best spend the million, before the first board was formed in 2014.
What did residents say they wanted in their area?
In 2021, at a public consultation held at Seaside Rec Fun day, many residents said they wanted free performing arts for young people at leaf hall.
